A vehicle has veered off a road and crashed 100 metres down the embankment through thick bushland on Tamborine Mountain in the Scenic Rim.

Emergency services became aware of the crash about 1.20pm on Monday when a passer-by noticed tyre tracks running off Main Western Road and down the embankment.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesman said technical rescue crews rappelled down with paramedics and found the vehicle and the driver, who had freed himself from the wreck.

The vehicle was about 100 metres down from the hang-gliding launch area, the QFES spokesman said.
