Three men are in a stable condition. One man, aged in his 30s, was taken to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, while two men, both in their 20s, were taken to The Alfred.

It is unclear whether the scaffolding fell onto workers or whether they were standing on one of the raised levels of the scaffolding.

Part of the scaffolding fell onto a white ute, which appeared to be damaged.

Police said the workplace safety watchdog, WorkSafe, has been notified of the incident.

A caller to 3AW, who said his name was Ross, said the scene looked like a “disaster”.
