The property – jointly marketed by Stephen Thompson, from LJ Hooker – Manuka and Bill Lyristakis, from Berkely Residential – Kingston – has been listed for sale with a price guide between $4.79 million and $5.19 million.

The home has multiple living areas.

Mr Thompson said the special residence was previously owned by Mr Murphy, who served as a Senator for New South Wales from 1962 to 1975 and as Attorney-General in the Whitlam Government. He was then appointed to sit on the High Court from 1975 until his death in 1986.

Mr Thompson said Mr Murphy’s widow continued to live in the property until the family sold up and the current owners purchased it in 1997.

“The home itself, while the house is a high quality, easy home to live in, the gardens are spectacular. All the hard work has been done. The current owners, over the last 12 years have invested a lot of time and energy to make it beautiful and established,” he said.

“It’s just under an acre of land in heart of Canberra’s inner south, which is the most valuable part of Canberra.

A modern kitchen.

Plenty of space for the whole family.

The home office.

“It’s a very short stroll to Canberra Grammar School, Manuka Village, Red Hill Nature Reserve, so the location itself is a dress circle location.”

With 490sqm of living space in the main residence, as well as a separate apartment, the home has a multitude of accommodation options, formal and casual living rooms, a combined study-library, designated music room and a plethora of entertaining spaces.

The master bedroom has a personal dressing room and ensuite as well as it’s own private entrance to the 10m below-ground swimming pool.

The self-contained one-bedroom apartment is set at the back of the main home and offers an ideal set-up for extended family, guests or domestic staff.
