Police believe the group were operating as part of a larger transnational crime syndicate, which stretched across Colombia, Panama, Chile and Australia.

The group were arrested when a search warrant was executed at a South Melbourne home in March 2018, during which $35,000 in cash was also seized.

The four men, aged between 24 and 31, were sentenced on Monday in the Melbourne County Court after pleading guilty to the attempted importation of drugs.

A fifth syndicate member – a 27 year old Colombian male – was sentenced to 14½ years imprisonment, with a minimum parole period of ten years in July last year.
