Former lawyer-turned-informer Nicola Gobbo won’t be seen when she gives evidence to a royal commission, and the public will only hear her voice.

Commissioner Margaret McMurdo ruled on Monday morning that Ms Gobbo will only be seen by the commissioner when Ms Gobbo gives evidence from Tuesday, after confidential submissions were made by lawyers for the former barrister and Victoria Police.

“In light of the legislative and common law principles applicable to this case, I am satisfied the interests of justice, particularly the safety concerns for Ms Gobbo and her family members, warrant the following order,” Ms McMurdo said.

“Ms Gobbo’s image during her evidence to the commission be recorded, but not streamed or made publicly available and that only I see her image while she’s giving evidence.”
