Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk will not ask her new chief of staff to hand back a termination payment of almost $300,000 he was given by the government in 2018.

Jim Murphy, Queensland’s former under treasurer, started as Ms Palaszczuk’s new chief of staff on Monday.

He had received the $297,000 payout when he left the public in service in September 2018 to “take up new career opportunities” and be closer to family in NSW.

On Monday, the LNP used the first Question Time of the parliamentary sitting year to grill the government over Mr Murphy’s appointment.
